It’s long been known why so many yankees move further South, because they’ve about destoryed the quality of life in their old places of residence.  Yet, too often, it seems as soon as they’ve settled into their new areas, they start the same cycle all over again.  I simply do not understand that, only to say that’s a yankee for you.

This new poll showing displeasure with high taxes, poorly run schools and overcrowding should be of interest to our local elected officials who think it’s OK to keep raising taxes without a thought to the long term damage that usually results in such politics.    That’s not to say don’t raise taxes at all, but it’s obvious that it’s a lot easier to keep doing that then it is to keep costs under control.

This has to be a joke.

We have a failing school system and the person leading it gets an award for being “best” superintendent?  Really?   Talk about low hanging fruit.

City faces Lawsuit from Developer over access to Lake Manassas.

March 29, 2011 at 7:49 am | Posted in City of Manassas, Lake Manassas | 2 Comments

In another twist to the long drawn out drama surrounding Lake Manassas, a developer is suing the City for access to the lake.   The City, in recent years, has started to discuss possible plans to reopen the lake to the public.   However, I believe before anything happens in that direction, the lawsuit is to be settled.

“First class schools for a first class City”

March 7, 2011 at 8:51 am | Posted in City of Manassas, Public education. | 13 Comments

That is that is the slogan on the Manassas City school division home page.   Is there anything that would lead us to believe that statement has any truth to it at all?

Here is another statement from the website.

Welcome to Manassas City Public Schools. Our motto, “First Class Schools for a First Class City,” drives the work of almost 1,000 full and part time teachers, administrators, and support staff who serve approximately 7,000 students on nine campuses.

At the administrative level, our staff is committed to serving the schools, students, parents and community to the best our capacity by:

  • meeting the service needs of all schools to insure success and support the educational process;
  • maximizing the resources and structure of the Central Office to enable the efficient delivery of services; and
  • developing a cooperative partnership between the schools, Central Office and the community to enhance each role in the educational process.

We are very proud of the accomplishments of our students and staff.  We cordially invite citizens to visit our schools and to attend the many academic, cultural, and sports events held each week!

A recent study just concluded in fact, the  school system was not maximizing resources, which means the schools are not running efficiently at all.  One would believe if the school system was proud of the academic accomplishments, they would provide some information to back that claim.  However, there is no mention of the 75% graduation rate, or the even lower rate for esl students.  No mention of the low test scores as compared to other State wide districts.

More waste by the City Council.

March 5, 2011 at 12:35 am | Posted in City of Manassas, Illegal Aliens, Uncategorized | 3 Comments

The Council wants to hire a PR person to send out releases regarding the City and schools.  Well, given the amount of bad news of late regarding both, I’m not surprised the Council would like to start a propaganda, errr, pr campaign in order to try to take the focus off the negative news.  However, if we have to pay for fluff pieces, the horse is too far down the road to call back, and we have larger issues than that.

What the City Council can do though to make  improvements is to get rid of the silly agreement that gives the school system a certain amount of the overall general funds regardless if it is needed or not, and to pass laws that crackdown on illegals living in the City.  No amount of spin is going to change the public perception of the City if we continue to have crimes tied to illegals and a failing school system.

Where is the school leadership in Manassas?

On the heals of another damaging report on City schools, I would expect our school superintendent, Gail Pope,  to release a statement explaining why, we the taxpayers of the City, should put up with her any longer.   The graduation rate and test scores are down.   The report, while based on data from a couple of years ago, is nevertheless a concern since we are not aware of any changes made by Pope that have addressed the wasting of money.

This is simply unacceptable.  Pope’s job is not to hire friends at outrageous salaries, it is to run a school system in a way that allows our students to excel at academics.   She has failed so far to do that.    Leadership is a special quality.  She obviously lacks that quality.

More bad news for the school system.

February 28, 2011 at 9:43 pm | Posted in City of Manassas, Illegal Aliens, liberalism, Public education. | 2 Comments

According to this article in the Washington Post, of all the local school districts, ours come in last for the most bang for the buck.  It’s not surprising given the number of illegals in the school system and the wasteful spending that goes on.  Of course superintendent Pope believes all it is going to take to turn around the schools is more money.  What a joke our school system has become.    Any word from the school board about their concerns?  Of course not, they just keep screaming for more money too.    It should be criminal for this type of mismanagement to go on.  But, alas I guess from the City Council and school board, the members are not worried about the waste or the reputation of the school system.  No, they are just concerned about their pet art projects.

I’m sure this guy will be caught shortly, given how clear the pictures are.  And, when he is sitting in jail, I can decide if it was worth it.

So our schools superintendent felt a house and foreclosure work shop is a community event worthy of using students as pawns.

The Manassas City school superintendent,  Gail Pope, was asked by at least one City Council member on Wednesday, why she allowed a flier to be sent home with students that had nothing to do with schools or the City Government.   Her reply was the she considers it to be a community event.   Rather than focusing on the education of students, she’s using students as pawns in her liberal agenda.  The housing work house is sponsored in part by some very liberal groups.

The school system is falling apart,  and Pope wants to focus on home workshops.  Pope needs to be fired.

The Suspect in a sexual assault of a five year old is an illegal alien.

February 16, 2011 at 1:22 pm | Posted in City of Manassas, Illegal Aliens, liberalism, Prince William County | 5 Comments

In the last week,  in either the city of Manassas or Prince William County, three people have been killed and one child has been sexually assaulted by suspects who are illegal aliens.    Yet, there are people who want to deny we have an issue with illegal aliens.    Rather than trying to do something to remove illegal aliens from our community, they would rather call those of us who are against illegal aliens, racists and bigots for wanting to make our communities more safe.

How many more victims are needed before these people wake up to the problem?
